There’s something magical about making an object by hand. On Sunday, March 23, join local farmer and part business owner Troy Dickens of Castine’s Tilth & Timber to learn how to carve a wooden spoon using simple hand tools. During this six-hour small group workshop, participants will learn how to transform a log into a functional wooden spoon. We will discuss the basics of spoon carving and tools of the trade including how to safely use an axe and basic knife techniques. Troy will share insights on how to choose the right piece of wood, design a spoon, and read the grain.
No previous woodworking experience is necessary! Participants will learn safety techniques and have step-by-step instruction along their spoon carving journey. All tools and materials necessary will be provided for use during the workshop. This workshop includes a 30-minute break for lunch; participants are encouraged to bring their own lunch, water, and snacks.
Registration is required and space is limited. Workshop registration is $100 per person.
