The Wilson Museum’s summer art exhibit continues a long tradition of celebrating local art and artists. For this year’s exhibit, artists were asked to draw inspiration from the history, cultures, and landscapes of the Penobscot Bay Region and the world, echoing the museum’s educational mission. Historic Castine: The Power of Place

Situated at the heart of Wabanaki territory, Castine’s strategic location drew early European settlers, provided economic opportunities, and became a place of conflict between competing colonial powers. This exhibit delves into the complicated and fascinating history reflected on the landscape, in the architecture, and through community institutions and organizations. Castine’s history has drawn generations of visitors and inspired many interpretations and stories.
