Inspired: History | Culture | Place

Hutchins Education Center, July 9 - August 4, 2024, open daily 2-5 pm

The Wilson Museum’s summer art exhibit continues a long tradition of celebrating local art and artists. For this year’s exhibit, artists were asked to draw inspiration from the history, cultures, and landscapes of the Penobscot Bay Region and the world, echoing the museum’s educational mission.

Antique Boat Exhibit

Living History Campus

A cornerstone of our living history program, the Boat Shop features an exhibit of traditional small boats from Castine, including Mace Eaton’s 1920s lapstrake peapod, Jake Dennett’s 1920s rowboat or tender, and the Ada Mae, a Castine Class prototype built by Mace Eaton.

Bagaduce Engine Company

Living History Campus

The Bagaduce Engine Company building is home to some of Castine’s early firefighting history. The display includes the “Bagaduce” fire engine, purchased by the town of Castine in 1845, the town’s 1917 fire alarm (which still works!), and other tools of the trade.
