Myles Felch

Curator and Geologist
Maine Mineral & Gem Museum

One of the most beloved spaces in the museum is the rock room. On Tuesday, October 24, bring your curiosity for a deep dive into tourmaline, Maine’s state mineral, with Myles Felch, Curator and Geologist at the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum in Bethel.

Myles will explain the basics of tourmaline: mineral chemistry, where it is found in the state, how it occurs and what it is used for. The talk will also include some fundamentals on geology including a primer on the host rock for tourmaline, Granitic Pegmatite, Maine's newly designated state rock as of June of 2023.

There will be time for questions, so bring your curiosity!

This presentation is free of charge, and will be offered virtually (no in-person option). Please register using the button below.

This program is part of the Wilson Museum’s program series Connecting to Collections: Curiosity, Culture, Climate made possible through the generous support of Bangor Savings Bank.
